Sheltering The Night

Sheltering The Night is my new digital moving image work commissioned as part of SLICE, (http://otherasias.webnode.com /currents/current-6-building-blocs/slice/) a long distance collaborative project between artists in Lahore, Pakistan and London, UK. It will be exhibited in September 2011 at Rich Mix and Whitechapel Idea Store in London, and at Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, Lahore.

SLICE invited the London artists to make a work responding to a particular point on a line that makes a mile-long slice through London. The slice travels from Liverpool Street station to Whitechapel. I chose to respond to The Providence Row Night Shelter – one of the first night shelters for the homeless (set up in the 1860′s) and now home to students at LSE.
