Today We Are Ourselves...

In a week-long series of specially created daily events, Lucy Cash and Tabea Martin used live performance and video to explore 'self-display' in relation to the public and private body. Responding to the citizens and town of Bassano, each day comprised of a 20 minute performance event and an ongoing installation.

From the Other Side

There’s an essence of stories contained in the very structure of language itself. And of language’s relationship to the imagination: if someone says to us, zebra, or a dragon breathing, or the Berlin wall, something very peculiar happens. Somewhere inside our heads, the word can trigger off a mental picture of all these things. No-one knows exactly where or how that image is produced or perceived.

From The Other Side is a performance by Christina Ciupke and Lucy Cash for a solo performer in relation to still and moving images. The work explores the construction of stories not just through the order in which events happen and their dramatic meaning, but also through the relationship these events have to time and space. Dissolving between the live performer and the photograph, images begin to create a dialogue of suspense.

Subtitles

Unconscious dialogue: language forms our movements. our movements influence the spoken word. but the connection is complicated. because body and language communicate with and through gaps, translation, shifts. a secret, but powerful interaction, that governs the own self as well as the dealings with others.

Subtitles is a performance by Nik Haffner and Christina Ciupke, and a film collaboration with Lucy Cash.

Dinner with America

Dinner with America is the second in a trilogy of performances by Rajni Shah addressing the complexities of cultural identity in the 21st century. The work takes the form of a performance installation and as the performance space shifts and transforms, it gently uncovers sub-themes of consumerism, rights, ownership, voices, hopes, harvest and division. rajnishah.com

Dinner with America

A reading companion for Rajni Shah’s performance installation Dinner with America. It includes previously unpublished writing by Rajni Shah as well as a new series of collaborative images made with Lucille Acevedo-Jones, Lucy Cash and Manuel Vason, and writing by Chris Goode and Mary Paterson.

Each booklet includes a copy of the DVD (PAL) of Three Short Films about Dinner with America by Lucy Cash featuring the films Voices in Transit: Amazing Grace (September 2007), Dinner with America (December 2007) and Uncertain Landmarks (March 2008).

Lucy was invited by Catherine Bennett/ Volcano Theatre to make a film for i-witness - a performance inspired by the writings of WG Sebald.

Everything You Say Will Become Dust Anyway

Lucy was a performer and collaborator for this performance in which five extras find themselves within an unseen epic.

The performers move from scene to scene playing out the background action. Their small but necessary contribution begins to unfurl, revealing their place within the bigger picture.

The performance contemplates intermediate spaces, being an extra, the dynamics of groups, hierarchies, remnants, gaps and fissures. And distils the perception of epic into an hour-long performance. oblivia.com

"STILL, choreographed and performed by Anna Krzystek, with live sound score by Tom Murray and film by Lucy Cash, pitches in between a solo of thrillingly controlled, starkly delineated movement and an art installation. Five monitors, ranged across the space, pass around shifting images of another room in another time. Real time is punctuated by high pitched pulses, low dronings, outbursts of abrasively scratchy noise. Within this context, Krzystek's body writes her repeating loops of precise action: head pivoting in detailed searches, foot probing and mapping the floor, every move a study in uncluttered, poised intensity, the moments of stillness every bit as compelling. It's as if you're spying on different dimensions at once - and it's fascinating."

Deep End

A site specific performance by Gerry Pilgrim.

Lucy was invited by Gerry to make a site sensitive video installation for the empty swimming pool in a complex of building’s known as the Marshall Street baths in Soho, London.

Glass Body

Glass Body: reflecting on becoming transparent was a Wellcome Trust funded performance installation that explored how onscreen spectacles of our own inner bodies are received in our imagination via contemporary digital and computer pictures. Lucy was commissioned to make film installations for inclusion in this work by Retina Dance:

Imagine you are standing at the end of the world, on top of the highest mountain, in front of the largest sea, at that point where you can’t imagine time has ever passed. ...Me:Mo confronts these extremes of insignificance and magnitude in two connected works. Vertical Memory is a solo for choreographer Filip Van Huffel in which he challenges the interface between his body and the spatial memory of four different environments. The group work Horizontal Memory is a collage of recollections.
