After screening at the Reel Earth Environmental Film Festival and the Environment Network’s Ideal Homes in New Zealand, Lucy Cash’s Einstein & The Honeybee will be shown at Squash Nutrition’s L8 Honey Night – an evening of short films and events promoting Squash Nutrition’s latest community bee keeping project.

What On Earth is a series of short films which look at the state of the species: at some of the pressures on our planet, issues we face now and futures we may see as a consequence of the way we live today.

Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

It will be exhibited in September 2011 at Rich Mix and Whitechapel Idea Store in London, and at Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, Lahore.

SLICE invited the London artists to make a work responding to a particular point on a line that makes a mile-long slice through London. The slice travels from Liverpool Street station to Whitechapel. I chose to respond to The Providence Row Night Shelter – one of the first night shelters for the homeless (set up in the 1860′s) and now home to students at LSE.

The screening is on Monday 13th June.

My film is called Einstein and The Honey Bee:

The honey bee is a much loved insect that has inspired and provoked us humans in equal measure. Einstein and the Honey Bee takes a sideways look at the honeybee and what it means to us, discovering that there are some things that science just can’t predict…. The film, echoing the labour of the honey bee, has been created using hand-drawn animations by Thomas Knowler and was shot on S16mm film and digital stills camera.
